As COVID-19 shook many organizations, the Toronto Zoo closed for an extended period of time, inspiring leadership to reinvent what it was able to offer the public. As a result, the Toronto Zoo Master Plan sought to re-envision the onsite experience of visitors at the zoo. It identified innovative solutions for funding sources, building new relationships, and for the imminent challenges facing species and habitats.

Re:Public’s role in the project was to develop a consultation and engagement strategy with several stakeholder and community groups and integrate the input into the Master Plan. Due to the public health restrictions, our team developed interactive online mapping and ideation workshops using Miro. These workshops were divided into four groups: Animal Welfare, Logistics and Operations, Guest Experience, and Human Resources.

In order to boost public participation and excitement throughout the project, Re:Public developed a branding and communications package for the Toronto Zoo’s website, Instagram, and Facebook page.
